| ANDREA GUTIERREZ Artist Statement: Conjoining traditionally female tools of expression; bead, needle and thread with the traditionally male medium of painted canvas, I strive to create repetitive, precise, yet subtly varied lines, grids and pattern that show the human hand in itself creating work that will create a time and space of minimal chaos; work that makes the viewer stop, and get close; and work that demands intimacy, a commitment of sorts. I seek the quiet place that is not distracted by thought, and carries the power of simplicity and silence Born: Madrid Spain 1956 Education: 1974-1975 The Claremont Colleges, Claremont, California 1975-1979 California College of Arts and Crafts, Oakland, California Exhibition History: 2006 Wood, Paper, Paint, Stewart Gallery, Boise, Idaho 2005 Winter Exhibition, Stewart Gallery, Boise, Idaho 2004 Summer Group Exhibition Stewart Gallery, Boise, Idaho 2003 “A Day in May” Stewart Gallery, Boise, Idaho 2003 Summer Group Exhibition, Stewart Gallery, Boise, Idaho 2002 “A Day in May” Stewart Gallery, Boise, Idaho |
