Stewart Gallery’s exhibition, LINE, features Deborah Barrett’s mixed media collages, limited edition prints by Squeak Carnwath, and Benjamin Jones drawings.

San Francisco artist Deborah Barrett is a writer by formal education. Barrett brings a literate style to her artwork and invites the viewer to interpret their own meaning from her work. She has exhibited in Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Mill Valley, Los Angeles, and New York. Her drawings have appeared in The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Esquire, and The New York Times among others. Recently, Barrett became a recipient of a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant.

Squeak Carnwath is an internationally renowned painter and a member of the art faculty at the University of California at Berkeley. Stewart Gallery is showing a selection of her first work with Tandem Press where she created eight new prints. Carnwath's work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries throughout the United States. Her work is found in distinguished collections including the San Francisco Fine Arts Museum, San Francisco MOMA, The Contemporary Art Museum in Honolulu, American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York and the MIT List Visual Center. She has received numerous fellowships including a Guggenheim, and two from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Benjamin Jones creates haunting images that reveal a distinct visual language. His drawings are included in prominent museum collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Indianapolis Museum of Art in Indiana; High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Georgia; the J.B. Speed Museum, Louisville, Kentucky; the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans; Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia as well as significant corporate and private collections. In 2003, Jones received an individual artist grant from The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation.
